Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora has been delayed into 2023 to 2024

Avatar fans may have to wait a little longer for the Ubisoft title, Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora.

Ubisoft was initially stating that Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora would release by the end of 2022. This date was revealed during E3 2021. Ubisoft then clarified it would release the game as a part of its current fiscal year, which ends on March 31, 2023. However, during a quarterly earnings update, Ubisoft’s plans have shifted. Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora will arrive sometime in 2023-2024 instead.

Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora is being developed by the studio behind Tom Clancy’s The Division (Massive Entertainment). The Snowdrop Engine will be used for Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora. The game was originally announced in planning back in 2017.

Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora is being described as a first-person action-adventure game set in the Western Frontier of Pandora. According to the official description , players will explore ”a living and reactive world inhabited by unique creatures and new characters, and push back the formidable RDA forces that threaten it.”

When it releases, Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora will be available on PC, the Xbox Series X, the PlayStation 5, and Google Stadia.

The last time Ubisoft worked on a game for Avatar was back in 2009, with James Cameron’s Avatar: The Game. It was a third-person shooter that released on PS3, PC, and Xbox 360.

What’s Next?

The news certainly comes at a disappointment to many fans. Although they won’t be able to enjoy an Avatar game in 2022, there is still Avatar: The Way of Water releasing on December 16, 2022. It is set to be the first of four films that will serve as sequels to Avatar.

Ubisoft said that it is ”committed to delivering a cutting-edge immersive experience that takes full advantage of next-gen technology, as this amazing global entertainment brand represents a major multi-year opportunity for Ubisoft.”

”While this additional development time is a reflection of the ongoing constraints on productions across the industry, we are hard at work to design the most efficient working conditions to ensure both flexibility for our teams as well as strong productivity while delivering the best experiences to players.”

Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot said that Avatar presents a strong opportunity for Ubisoft and that the company wanted to ”come with something that is perfect.”
