2022 saw the release of the impressive film, Top Gun: Maverick, a sequel to 1986’s Top Gun.

The new film quickly grew in the box office, taking the spots of many of this year’s successful films and shattering records. Now however, it has moved into the top ten highest domestic grossing films of all time, overtaking The Avengers for spot nine.

Industry analysts however believe that at this rate Top Gun: Maverick could see itself moving higher up on the charts.

The highest domestic-grossing film in U.S. history was Star Wars Episode VII, which premiered in cinemas back in 2015 and made a whopping 936 million in the U.S. alone. No one expects Maverick to surpass this number, but as things stand it might get quite close.

After that comes 2019’s Avengers Endgame, which made close to 860 million, and Spider Man: No Way Home, which made just under 805 million domestically.

The Paramount action-film has generated a total of $1.24 billion at the box office, and that number continues to soar. It quickly became one of the twenty largest films of all time, globally. This is the first time a Cruise film has ever seen so much success.

The movie saw an impressive $160.5 million during its opening weekend, and would continue to make sales in high margins as the weeks passed. This was also Cruise’s first time getting $100 million during an opening weekend in decades.

The actors has also made $100 million from the film alone.
