Avatar Studios, the production studio Nickelodeon created to develop shows and films for the Last Airbender franchise will be producing their first ever animated film for the show series, starring Avatar Aang and his companions who show up throughout the show.
The announcement was made during 2022’s Comic-Con at San Diego, and while there are no specifics on the cast, plot, or other specific elements, we will be able to see the whole of Team Avatar yet again.
‘Team Avatar’ was the phrase used to encompass the group of main characters that worked together to stop Fire Lord Ozai in the original show series.
As stated on Polygon, the show will be centered around the group as young adults, so at some point after the events of the original series. This is especially exciting as it’ll show us an in-depth look at the time frame between the original show and its spinoff show, The Legend of Korra.
We’re also hoping that the movie focuses on the characters outlined in the novels, although that’s unlikely.
However, the studio will be working on not one or two, but three separate animated films across over the coming years, so there is a chance that you’ll be able to catch your favorite, off-series characters on the big screen. It all depends on what the studios’ developers decide to do however.
There’s more in store for the Avatar universe however, as Netflix is currently working on developing a live-action version of the original show that will probably come out sometime soon.
The one issue that’s worrying fans is the fact that the show’s original creators actually left the project, so it may be delayed by some time.
