The Sony PlayStation VR2 is coming “early 2023,” according to company posts made on Instagram and Twitter. Previously, Sony has been teasing interesting information about the upcoming headset, with a timeline now given.

No price has been announced just yet for the VR2, but Sony is promising lots of cool things. Aside from the 4K resolution, it can also run at 90Hz or 120Hz with a 110-degree field of view. It can also use foveated rendering, which basically renders certain parts of the image as sharper than others to make things easier for the PlayStation 5. The headset also connects to the console with a single USB C cable.

For the launch of the PlayStation VR2, Sony says it will have a lineup of about 20 “major” games, including games set in the Horizon and Walking Dead universes. Additionally, VR versions of No Man’s Sky and Resident Evil Village are set to release for the headset.

The PS VR2 will not use a camera connected to the console to track movements. Instead, it will use inside-out tracking. This is similar to the Meta Oculus Quest 2. With this technology, you’ll be able to see your surroundings while you’re wearing the headset. No more crashing into the wall and a few couches and possibly destroying your mom’s favorite vase anymore.

Sony also says that the PlayStation 5 will let you broadcast yourself while you’re playing a VR game, but you’ll need to have a PlayStation HD camera connected to do so.

The controllers for the headset will come with haptic feedback and adaptive triggers–similar to what’s already in the DualSense controller for the PlayStation 5. They also come with finger-touch detection, which can sense where you rest your thumb, index, or middle fingers and you won’t need to press anything.

The only device compatible with the PlayStation VR2 is the PlayStation 5.
