Meta is now allowing users of Quest VR headsets to log in with a new Meta account instead of a Facebook account. Meta had stated back in July that the change would begin rolling out in August. Back in 2020, Meta had announced that it would require users to log in with a Facebook account rather than an Oculus account. The decision was very unpopular with Quest users at the time.

Now, users can create a Meta account through the Meta mobile app using an email address, Facebook account, or Instagram account. Once a Meta account is created, you will need to set up a linked Meta Horizon social profile to be used in VR. You will need a Meta account to use the Quest VR headset.

In a blog post by Meta, the company said: “Our new Meta account structure gives you more flexibility and control, letting you choose how you do and don’t show up–and whether Facebook and/or Instagram is part of your experience in VR and other surfaces where you use your Meta Horizon profile.”

If you are still using an Oculus account, you have until January 1, 2023 before you need to make the switch over to a Meta account.
