Since the Microsoft acquisition of Activision was announced, there was a rumor that Call of Duty may shift away from its previous annual release model and instead turn to a new game every two years. Activision has also confirmed that ”premium content” will be releasing for Call of Duty in 2023.

”Across the Call of Duty ecosystem, the teams are well positioned to support these launches with substantial live operations, while also continuing development of new premium content planned for 2023 and beyond,” Activision stated in its Q2 2022 earnings report.

Some earlier reports in 2022 claimed that Call of Duty’s 2023 release could be delayed to 2024, leaving a gap in the Call of Duty releases.

Activision also spoke about the mobile version of Warzone, saying that it looks ”strong” and that players can expect an ”innovative mobile experience” when it launches. On earnings, Activision said that its revenue and operating income had been declining due to ”lower engagement” for Call of Duty, but that it was rising again in Q1.

Call of Duty is currently preparing for the launch of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II, which is scheduled for October 28. Warzone 2 is also expected to launch this year and it is expected to boost engagement in the franchise.

In other Call of Duty news, Sony is currently worried that Microsoft’s acquisition of Call of Duty may influence players to start purchasing an Xbox over a PlayStation 5. You can read that report here.
