Sony‘s new internal development team for PlayStation is co-developing a game with Naughty Dog based on a “beloved franchise,” according to job listing.
Earlier this week, a job posting on a recruitment site seemed to show that Sony was “building a new internal game development team in partnership with PSS Visual Arts.”
PSS Visual Arts is a San Diego-based support studio that has recently contributed to The Last of Us Part 1.
The job listing showed that the unannounced project is being developed in collaboration with Naughty Dog, the studio behind Uncharted and The Last of Us–both of which are extremely popular Sony IPs.
The job listing was later edited and replaced with: “Sony PlayStation is building a new internal game development team. This is the same world-class team known for its contributions to the Last of Us franchise.”
Another job listing has been published, based in the same San Diego area as PSS Visual Arts. No specific reference in the listing was made to the studio, but it states that the role is for “a new PlayStation studio based in San Diego, CA.”
The listing goes on to say: “Currently we are co-developing an exciting new project with Naughty Dog in a beloved franchise.”
PSS Visual Arts was established to help support many franchises made by PlayStation like Spider-Man and Uncharted. Recent reports seem to show that the support studio wanted to work on its own projects.
According to a Bloomberg report from last year, Visual Arts wanted to remake Uncharted, but the project was deemed too expensive and time-consuming. Instead, the studio worked on this year’s remake of The Last of Us.
It is highly possible that Sony may revisit the Uncharted franchise. Earlier this year, a new recruiter at Naughty Dog claimed she had been hired to build future teams for “the legacy of Uncharted.”
All of the main Uncharted games have been remastered, so a remake or new Uncharted title is likely to be up next.
