Google’s cloud gaming platform Stadia is shutting down January 2023, and it has already claimed its first casualty. Outcasters will also disappear alongside Stadia in January.

On Twitter, Outcasters studio Splash Damage posted that due to the game being exclusively built for Stadia, it cannot be ported to another platform. It’s likely that it will never be playable again due to this situation.

Splash Damage wrote in a blog post regarding the situation, saying that “it is with a heavy heart that we inform you that we do not have plans to bring Outcasters to other platforms at this time. Outcasters was designed and built exclusively for Stadia, with many of its systems heavily reliant on the platform, significantly increasing the complexity of the work required.

“We still firmly believe that cloud gaming has a bright future in our industry, providing easier access to games than ever before, and we are encouraged to see that other platforms still champion the cause.”

Outcasters was announced back in July 2020 and released on December 2020.

Google decided to shut Stadia down, saying that it didn’t gain the traction it was hoping for and has decided to refund users who bought Stadia equipment. Some companies like Ubisoft are looking into ways for players to transfer data from the service, but Outcasters will likely not be able to do so.
