The newest anime film adaptation to see the big screen, One Piece Film: Red, has grossed a whopping $37 million in its opening week after it debuted in cinemas across Japan.
Film staff announced it during an event at Tokyo’s Marunouchi Toei theater- after it received $16.7 million in its opening weekend alone.
The movie, directed by Goro Taniguchi, quickly rose to the top of the national Box Office and has outdone its predecessor, One Piece Stampede, earning 78% more than in two days the first film made in three.
“Uta — the most beloved singer in the world. Renowned for concealing her own identity when performing, her voice has come to be described as ‘otherworldly,’” the movie’s synopsis states.
“Now, for the first time ever, Uta will reveal herself to the world at a live concert. As the venue fills with all kinds of Uta fans — excited pirates, the Navy watching closely, and the Straw Hats led by Luffy who simply came to enjoy her sonorous performance — the voice that the whole world has been waiting for is about to resound. The story begins with the shocking fact that she is Shanks’ daughter.”
