Ryan Murphy’s newest series, Dahmer, has risen to Netflix’s second largest English language series ever, as it surpassed Bridgerton in its first four weeks on the streaming platform.
The show, Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story, stars Evan Peters as the serial killer and has topped Netflix’s charts for the third week since its release now. It garnered over 200 million watch hours during its first week, and has accumulated a whopping total of 701.37 million hours since. It’s fallen behind only Stranger Things season 4, which made 1.35 billion hours within its first 4 weeks.
Netflix’s globally most watched show is Squid Game, which garnered some 1.65 billion hours within its first 4 weeks on the platform.
The series, while being widely popular amongst users of Netflix’s service, has been lambasted by critics who gave it a 52% on Rotten Tomatoes’ critics’ score. Variety critic Caroline Framke criticized the show as being predictable.
“It’s a grim, sepia-toned slog that rarely justifies its own existence,” she added.
As for other popular murderer-related Netflix series’, Conversations with a Killer has garnered extreme popularity over the past few weeks, namely The Jeffery Dahmer Tapes and The John Wayne Gacy Tapes, which both received 31.4 million hours and 8.86 million hours in total now. The Midnight Club, a horror series by Mike Flanagan, has reached Netflix’s top ten list this week.
The latter series won a world record for the most jump scares in a single premiere.
