It looks like Activision is planning on releasing premium campaign content for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 in 2023.
According to Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier, an expansion for Modern Warfare 2 is expected to be released next year instead of a brand new Call of Duty title.
Bloomberg had previously claimed that Activision will not release another Call of Duty in 2023, which would be the first time in 20 years that the series has skipped out on a release. Schreier reiterated this claim in a tweet, stating that:
“Next year they’ll be selling new stuff for MW2, an expansion or something like that (not sure exactly what it’ll look like but it’ll have campaign stuff too),” he wrote. “No actual new COD until 2024 as I reported earlier this year.”
Call of Duty leaker TheGhostofHope also claimed something similar, tweeting that: “Campaign DLC to be released in late 2023 bundled with map pack I leaked previously.”
TheGhostofHope previously claimed that MW2 would be getting a ‘greatest hits’ pack that will contain multiplayer maps from several classic Call of Duty games to celebrate the franchise’s 20th anniversary and to be released as DLC for Modern Warfare 2.
Activision did confirm back in August that Call of Duty would receive “new premium content” in 2023.
Call of Duty has not done a DLC like this since Modern Warfare released in 2019. Previously, Activision would release map packs as Season Passes for Call of Duty titles.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 will release officially on October 28, with people who preorder obtaining early access to the campaign starting on October 20.
