Microsoft has decided to pitch its views in on its Activision deal by launching a website to show the benefits of the acquisition of Activision Blizzard. The deal has come under fire by Sony as well as competition regulators and watchdogs for fears that it will negatively effect the gaming industry.
The website outlines the “vision for gaming” Xbox has and states what it claims are the benefits of the $68.7 billion deal for players, game developers, and the gaming industry overall.
Xbox states that its deal will lead to more games on more devices alongside more choice when it comes to purchasing games and variety for mobile gamers.
For game developers, Xbox has stated that the deal will make it easier for more gamers to access their games, lead to fairer marketplace rules, and allow for flexibility in payment systems. Additionally, Xbox says that the games industry will benefit from increased competition. Xbox also said that Sony and Nintendo will still remain the largest publishers despite the deal.
Xbox also put an “emphasis on positive workplace culture.” No specifics were stated about what Xbox was referencing, but it is most likely the controversy that has surrounded Activision Blizzard over the last year. Activision was accused of encouraging a “frat boy culture” in a lawsuit filed by California.
Despite the scrutiny surrounding the deal, Xbox boss Phil Spencer and Microsoft stated that they feel confident that the deal will go through.
