Infinity Ward has detailed in its patch notes all of the major changes its made for the Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 beta, including player visibility adjustments that will make it easier to spot enemies.
Earlier this week, Infinity Ward said that it was planning on reducing muzzle smoke opacity and increasing muzzle flash visibility in order to make tracking targets easier. The change will certainly be welcome to many players, as visibility was a commonly cited issue in forums.
Additionally, some audio changes have been made, reducing the distance from which players can hear footsteps. Enemy sounds are also more distinct to help differentiate.
There are also two new maps that have been added to the beta–Sariff Bay and Sa’id–which makes a total of six maps now that players can hop into.
Now, there are also six playable game modes after Ground War and Invasion were added into the loop. Ground War is a 32v32 match that involves lots of vehicles and varied combat styles.
Invasion is a newer mode. Infinity Ward describes it as having “large maps, 80 combatants, water play, ground vehicles, air vehicles and more — it’s absolute chaos!” It “pits two teams of 20 players and 20 AI against each other.”
Thursday marked the second weekend of the Modern Warfare 2 multiplayer beta, with the cross-play test open to PlayStation players and available in early access for Xbox and PC players who pre-ordered the game.
Infinity Ward is also planning on increasing the perk earn rate “significantly” once the beta opens to all platforms on September 24. They’re also working on fixing beta crashes on Xbox consoles.
Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 is set to release on October 28, with those who pre-ordered getting early access to the campaign starting October 20. Warzone 2 is releasing on November 16.
