Lies of P has no shortage of difficult and tough boss fights, as we noted in our review. Of course, Mad Donkey is definitely one of those boss fights. He is the only thing standing between you and getting to Geppetto at this point. You don’t really get a break much between beating the Parade Master and the Mad Donkey, but there is a pretty good strategy that you can employ to get this boss fight out of the way fast.
Mad Donkey’s Fighting Style
Mad Donkey is definitely one of the more forgiving bosses to fight in Lies of P. This is pretty true for human bosses, as you’ll come to see in our guides.
Mad Donkey’s attacks consist of many sweeping blows and he is really not that sophisticated in his fighting style. He jumps around and rolls around A LOT and you can easily evade most of these sweeps that he makes.
Mad Donkey also has some overhead hits and his “red attacks” consist of just a more powerful form of his standard attacks.
Now that we know his fighting style, let’s get into how you can beat him. There’s a few ways to do that:
How to Beat Mad Donkey
First, you can try to Perfect Block Mad Donkey, but I don’t recommend you do this the whole time. Firstly, since he’s fast, you’ll need to be quick with the buttons in order to perfect block him every time he swings.
Now, if you do perfect block successfully a lot, his weapon will break which does make fighting him a lot easier. However, if you can’t perfect block him very easily and you find yourself dying a bunch of times, avoid this strategy.
Instead, dodge and get out of the way of his sweeping attacks. At some point, he will pause for a brief moment. This should give you just enough time to run towards his back where you will find three red lines.
Use a standard attack (DO NOT USE A CHARGED ATTACK IT WILL NOT WORK THE WAY YOU WANT IT TO!) and you’ll see that he will take a ton of damage in a fatal blow.
Then, when he starts to get up, hit him a few times and then repeat this technique. You can combine perfect blocks with dodges and fatal hits. Also, as his health depletes, you should definitely use the fable arts on your blade to knock out some more health.
If you keep doing this, he will be dead in no time and you will get some nice rewards.
Rewards for Beating Mad Donkey
Once you kill Mad Donkey, you will get: the Enigma Assembly Tool, the Mad Donkey’s Hunting Apparel costume, Mad Donkey’s Mask headgear, a Hidden Moonstone, and the Krat City Hall Key.
You will also trigger a cutscene where you finally meet Geppetto. Plus, you get an extra Pulse Cell so you can heal more often.
