Gamescom has kicked off officially with its two-hour Opening Night Live presentation, hosted by The Game Awareds’ Geoff Keighley. It was streamed live on YouTube and Twitch, and was hosted in-person in Cologne, Germany.
Many announcements were made regarding video games and non-games.
Everywhere
Set for 2023, it looks like Everywhere is a game that is aiming to create a multi-world experience with action, adventure, and excitement. A former lead developer of the GTA series at Rockstar Games, Leslie Benzies, is working on the title at Build a Rocket Boy Games.
Dune: Awakening Has a New Trailer
Funcom has officially announced Dune: Awakening. It’s set to be a survival MMO in the Dune universe. The developer has also revealed that the beta registration is open, so you may get a chance to play the game early.
The Callisto Protocol New Gameplay
New gameplay was revealed for the upcoming horror game, The Callisto Protocol. Creator Glen Schofield took the stage to give fans some updates and show off some of the highly-anticipated horror and gore.
New Tales From the Borderlands
Gearbox has announced a new narrative game that picks up where 2015’s Tales From the Borderlands left off. New Tales From the Borderlands follows three “loveable losers” who are off to save the world. It’s set to release in October.
The Lords of the Fallen Gets a New Trailer
The Lords of the Fallen was previously titled Lords of The Fallen 2. It’s now gotten a new trailer. The souls-like game by developer Hexworks Studio is set to release in 2023. Fans of dark fantasy will definitely be excited for this one.
Sony Reveals DualSense Edge for PlayStation 5
Sony has revealed its new DualSense Edge controller. It looks to be a rival to the Xbox Elite controller, and will be a high performance, customizable controller.
Moving Out 2
A sequel to the 2020 couch co-op called Moving Out, Moving Out 2 got an announcement trailer today. It’s confirmed to have online co-op, so you can now play with your friends or work alone.
Hogwarts Legacy’s New Story Trailer
A new trailer was shown for the upcoming Hogwarts Legacy. The game is set in the Harry Potter universe, with the trailer focusing on the story. The game has been delayed into 2023.
Dying Light 2: Stay Human Expansion
The first major story expansion for Dying Light 2: Stay Human is called Bloody Ties. It releases on October 13, 2022.
Marauders Early Access
Tactical first-person shooter, Marauders, is entering Early Access this October. A trailer revealed a bit of what players can expect from the gameplay.
Tortuga: A Pirate’s Tale
A very brief trailer for Tortuga: A Pirate’s Tale was released during Opening Night Live. Not much is know about the game currently. It’s confirmed to be in development for PlayStation, Xbox, and Windows PC.
Sonic Frontiers
Sonic Frontiers has been confirmed for release on November 8. It releases on the PlayStation 5 and 4, the Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and Windows PC.
Under the Waves
A new game called Under the Waves has been announced by Quantic Dream and Parallel Studio. The story of Under the Waves follows an oil company driver in the 1970s named Stan who is exploring the North Sea’s depths. It’s expected to release in 2023.
Goat Simulator 3 New Gameplay Revealed
Goat Simulator 3 revealed some new gameplay at Opening Night Live, with the crazy chaos that the franchise is known for. The game is set to release in November.
Return to Monkey Island
Return to Monkey Island is set to release on September 19. A new trailer was revealed with details about the preorder bonus.
Moonbreaker
The developers behind Subnautica, Unknown Worlds, have announced a new digital tabletop strategy game written by Brian Sanderson. Moonbreaker is set to have Warhammer 40,000-style gameplay. It releases in Early Access this fall for PC and Mac.
Friends vs. Friends
Friends vs. Friends is a first person shooter that comes with a card-based ability system. Publisher Raw Fury assures fans it’s loads of fun.
Lies of P
The soulesborne-style video game is set to follow the story of Pinocchio, the lovable wooden puppet. It’s set in a Belle Epoque world and will be on Game Pass day 1.
Stranded: Alien Dawn
A planet survival simulator, Stranded: Alien Dawn is a game in which players must venture to a dangerous new world and fight for survival.
Atlas Fallen
Focus Home Interactive and Deck13 have announced Atlas Fallen. The interesting part about the game is that the player’s primary weapon is sand.
Homeworld 3
Blackbird Interactive’s Homeworld 3 got a gameplay deep dive. Many scenarios show how players can use different strategies and tactics while overcome their enemies in the heart of space.
Genshin Impact Sumeru Region First Look
As was previously announced for the 3.0 update, Genshin Impact players can get a first-look at the Sumeru region, as well as the new characters and abilities coming with the update.
Wyrdsong
Wyrdsong is being made by former Bethesda Game Studios designer Jeff Gardiner and Obsidian Entertainment alumnus Charlie Staples. The two of them formed Something Wicked Games.
Dead Island 2
Originally announced back in 2014, the zombie RPG Dead Island 2 has been re-revealed at Gamescom 2022. There are six playable characters, with a “pulpy and irreverant tone.” It’s expected to release on February 3, 2023 on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Windows PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
Honkai: Star Rail
Hoyoverse has announced its next game, Honkai: Star Rail. A brief teaser trailer was revealed for the game.
Gotham Knights
WB Games Montreal shared a new trailer for Gotham Knights, revealing who the enemies are and a release date of October 21.
Where Winds Meet
Where Winds Meet is set to be an action game with sword fighting and bows and arrows.
Park Beyond
Park Beyond is a building simulator that lets players build a futuristic amusement park.
Phantom Hellcat
Ironbird Creations, a new studio from publisher All in! Games announced its new game, Phantom Hellcat. The 3D hack-and-slash game follows a teen protagonist hunting down evil. No release date has been given, but its set to release on consoles and PC.
Killer Klowns From Outer Space: The Game
Killer Klowns From Outer Space: The Game is an adaptation of a 1988 movie that was also made into a Nintendo game back in 1989.
High on Life
A new trailer for the Rick and Morty creator’s first person shooter was revealed. Justin Roiland’s Squanch Games showed off the new trailer for High on Life, with talking weapons. It’s coming out on December 13, and will be available on the Xbox One and Series consoles and PC.
The Outlast Trials
Developer Red Barrels is bringing the first multiplayer entry to the Outlast franchise, The Outlast Trials. A closed beta is scheduled for this year.
The Expanse: A Telltale Series
A release date is expected for 2023, with the world premiere trailer revealed today.
Scars Above
Scars Above is set to be a science fiction game by Prime Matter and Mad Head Games.
