David Green’s newest horror film, Halloween Ends has opened to a $43 million weekend opening, significantly behind last year’s Halloween Kills, which made $49.4 million.
The movie had high expectations after making $5.4 million in Thursday previews. However, it clearly did not fully live up to them.
Either way however, the movie is looking to gross the highest this weekend and may make up to $50 million, which will go well over its $30 million budget. It’s the final installment in the Halloween trilogy, which would explain the strong gross. It’s currently playing at around 3,901 theaters.
The first film in the series, Halloween, premiered back in 2018 as the reboot to the original film. It made about $250 million in the box office, with Nick Castle still playing the role of Michael Myers funnily enough.
Its current competition is Smile, Paramount’s new horror film, which is looking to make $12 million in its third weekend at the box office.
