Apple analyst thinks that we may see a foldable iPad by 2024

Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has noted on Monday that Apple will likely slow down the pace of iPad releases for 2023. Instead, Apple will work to prepare for a foldable iPad release by 2024.

Kuo wrote on Twitter that he is “positive about the foldable iPad in 2024 and expect this new model will boost shipments and improve the product mix.”

Kuo’s current predictions seem to align properly with a report from analyst firm CCS Insight. The firm wrote back in October that Apple would launch a foldable iPad before a foldable iPhone would release.

Other manufacturers and tech companies have already worked towards creating foldable laptops and phones, like Lenovo and Samsung. Apple has seemingly stayed out of this arena, maintaining most of its style as consistently as possible.

However, it seems like Apple is now looking to enter the foldable tech space with a foldable iPad.

Kuo expects that the foldable iPad will feature a carbon fiber kickstand from Anjie Technology. This would mirror Microsoft’s Surface tablets, which have a build-in kickstand. The iPad currently does not have a kickstand and Apple’s lineup of cases and keyboard cases are quite expensive.

Kuo tends to be accurate with his predictions, but his timing has been off in the past before. Another analyst named Ross Young said he was aware that Apple was planning on new iPads with OLEd displays for 2024, but not a foldable model. Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman echoed Young’s statements as well.

Whether or not we really do get a foldable iPad, only time will tell. However, it could be an interesting segway for Apple to introduce a foldable iPhone.

Currently, we’re expecting to hear about Apple’s new mixed-reality headset anytime this year.
