Anime films have been taking American cinemas by a storm, with Crunchyroll making some of the biggest smashes in the anime market in North America. Crunchyroll is owned by Sony Pictures, and released Jujutsu Kaisen 0 earlier this year. That film made $17.6 million in its debut. The 2021 film titled Demon Slayer the Movie: Mugen Train made $21.2 million to start. That figure is impressive, considering that it debuted during a time where most cinemas were operating at limited capacity due to the pandemic.
Beast found itself in mixed waters with audiences as well. The film stars a father and his two teenage daughters who are being hunted by a massive lion. The movie cost $36 million to produce and has made $10.2 million in the international box office. The film was given a “B” CinemaScore.
In other cinema news, Top Gun: Maverick has amassed a massive $683 million in the domestic box office, overtaking Avengers: Infinity War. The film has continued to rank highly in cinemas, and is still in fourth place.
