2022’s newest release, Don’t Worry Darling, has made about $3.1 million in previews this Thursday.
The film was directed by actress Olivia Wilde and is now her second release, starring Harry Styles and Florence Pugh as its main characters. The film played at exclusive Imax screens on Monday and previewed on Thursday.
It was also one f the most widely anticipated releases at the 2022 Venice Film Festival, especially because of rumors about on-set drama, which most insiders do not believe has any impact on movies.
Warner Bros is expecting an opening of $17 million this weekend, however exhibitors are expecting somewhere around $24 million. The film had a budget of $35 million.
Box office analysts believe the film’s strongest market are the millions of younger females who are devoted fans of Harry Styles, who began his career in music. However, the film is currently sitting at a 35% critics score on Rotten Tomatoes, meaning that it may not win any awards. This may also drive away older audiences who tend to use reviews before going to the theaters.
The film is currently going up against the Avatar rerelease, which is currently the highest grossing movie in all history. It’s also going up against The Woman King, which had a strong opening weekend. James Cameron and Jon Landau are currently developing Avatar: The Way of Water, a sequel to the 2009 release.
