David Bautista, known for his role as Drax in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, won’t be starring as the hero for long.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 will mark Bautista’s last performance as Drax. The film is set to debut on May 5. The former professional wrestler turned actor spoke about his exit from the role in a GQ profile. He expressed gratitude and love for the role, but he is still relieved that it’s over.
Speaking to GQ, Bautista expressed that the role could be tiring. “It wasn’t all pleasant. It was hard playing that role. The makeup process was beating me down. And I just don’t know if I want Drax to be my legacy — it’s a silly performance, and I want to do more dramatic stuff.”
David Bautista has also appeared in the Netflix Original movie, Glass Onion as influencer Duke Cody. He is also starring in M. Night Shyamalan’s horror movie Kock at the Cabin. He made appearances in the James Bond movie Spectre, Blade Runner 2049, and Dune back in 2021.
David Bautista’s role in Dune will be “vastly expanded” in the sequel, which is set to release on November 3.
Back in 2021, Bautista spoke with Ellen DeGeneres about Drax, joking that he was going to be “54 years old by the time Guardians 3 acme out, and just like the shirtless thing is getting harder and harder for me.”
“The journey has come full circle, and I’m just ready to kind of step aside and wrap it up,” Bautista told DeGeneres.
Bautista will have ended up playing Drax in six movies and the holiday special for Guardians of the Galaxy. by the time Guardians 3 releases.
