Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story has now become the biggest show debut for Netflix since season 4 of Stranger Things.
The series tackles the story of the infamous American serial killer, Jeffrey Dahmer, who killed at least 15 people before he was finally caught and imprisoned. He was later beaten to death by his cellmate.
The series now has 196.2 million hours of viewership between September 21 to September 25. It’s only second to Stranger Things’ fourth season, which had 301.3 million watch hours from June 27 to July 3.
Despite the high numbers of viewership, Dahmer still fell short of Squid Games’ overall seasonal numbers.
Netflix has seen several other show releases in 2022, including The Sandman, Resident Evil, and more, but none were able to meet the same success as Dahmer has thus far.
There will most likely not be a second season for Dahmer, seeing as the project is a miniseries.
It’s very likely that the show’s success can be attributed to its subject. Serial killers and true crime are a point of fascination for many out there, with stories about horrifying tales like this capturing our attention.
It’s similar to the human fascination with horror movies and stories of death games.
Whatever the reason may be, it’s certain that Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story is now one of the most successful for the streaming giant.
