Capcom is warning players about a major progression bug in Resident Evil 4

Capcom is warning Resident Evil 4 players about a newly discovered major progression blocking bug. The comapny said the “rare but critical process bug” can occur when obtaining a specific key item after a cutscene at the beginning of Chapter 12.

“Please refrain from attacking with the knife until the notification for obtaining this item is displayed in the upper right of the screen,” Capcom said.

“After obtaining this key item, it will appear in the Key Items & Treasures menu in the attaché case. If it has not appeared, please reload saved data from before the start of Chapter 12.”

If players don’t get the item, they won’t be able to progress, making this a serious issue. Capcom said that it’s also currently present in all versions of the game, but it will be addressed in a future update.

“After the update has been applied, players will be able to continue the game even with the saved data where the error previously occurred.”

Capcom is also working on a fix for an issue that is causing flickering lights to appear in the PlayStation 5 version of the game.

There will be a free update for Resident Evil 4 on April 7 which will add The Mercenaries, a mode which tasks players with killing as many enemies as possible within a time limit.
