Hollywood celebrity Cameron Diaz is returning to acting, after almost eight years of retirement from the stage.
Co-actor Jamie Foxx announced the big move on his social media accounts via a phone call between the two. The last movie Diaz ever starred in was the 2014 remake of Annie, where she played a character with Miss Hannigan. Both actors worked together on that film.
Diaz, now 49 years old, stated that she was “so anxious” but “excited” about her return to Hollywood.
Diaz saw her rise to fame begin in 1994, after her role in Jim Carrey’s The Mask. She held roles in many big-budget films following that, including the Shrek franchise, Being John Malkovich, Charlie’s Angels, and much more.
Although her final film was filmed in 2014, the actress would formally step away from her career in 2018. In a conversation with Gwyneth Paltrow on the Sliding Doors star’s wellness podcast, Diaz stated that she was finally taking care of herself.
It’s a strange thing to say, I know a lot of people won’t understand it, I know you understand it, but it’s so intense to work at that level and be that public and put yourself out there.
“There’s a lot of energy coming at you at all times when you’re really visible as an actor and doing press and putting yourself out there.”
The phone call also saw Superbowl quarterback Tom Brady join in, in order to offer advice on un-retiring properly and coming back to the stage. Brady returned to the Superbowl early this year after announcing his retirement.
“I’m relatively successful at un-retiring,” he stated on the call.
“Honestly, exactly what I needed,” Diaz replied.
“Cameron I hope you aren’t mad I recorded this, but no turning back now,” Foxx stated on the call.
