Call of Duty Black Ops 3 open world leaked images show what we could've gotten

We could have almost gotten an open world component to Call of Duty: Black Ops 3. In fact, Treyarch was in the process of developing a campaign that would feature an open world. Back in 2019, news of the concept was revealed by Jason Schreier.

At the time of the news, there weren’t many details. However, now in 2022, we have a better idea of how massive the plans at Treyarch were for this open world campaign.

A Reddit user by the name of Purpletoaster revealed several leaked images that seem to show large environments and concepts for the open world.

It would have contained mini modes like assassinations, defense, and sabotage. There also would have been a day-night cycle and weather patterns. Additionally, there was going to be an economy and construction elements.

Unfortunately, the open world never came to fruition. It was abandoned “midway through production.” The campaign for Black Ops 3 ended up being a standard linear game. This also led to a crunch to meet the deadline for the game.

A lot of criticism surrounding Black Ops 3 related mainly to its lack of innovation and its decent campaign that wasn’t very fantastic compared to other entries in the series. Had Call of Duty Black Ops 3 gotten an open world campaign, it would’ve been something very interesting.

If Call of Duty had an open world campaign, would you be more willing to play it or do you prefer linear campaigns? Let us know in the comments below!
