This isn’t the first time Activision has been accused of stealing skin designs. Earlier this month, Activision was accused of stealing a design from a concept artist named Sail Lin. The skin in question was called Loyal Samoyed, and featured an operator with a dog’s head. Lin claimed that Call of Duty stole the two-year-old design.
In response to the accusations, Activision removed the skin completely from the game and any references made to it in Warzone and Call of Duty: Vanguard were also removed. Now, Activision is under hot water again for what seems to be like a second case of plagiarism.
Many have drawn parallels between Call of Duty’s new Doomsayer skin and a skin from Dr. Disrespect’s game, DEADROP.
Co-founder of Midnight Society (the studio working on DEADROP) and ex-Infinity Ward developer, Robert Bowling, has called out Activision, stating: “At least name it after me.” Bowling’s profile picture shows his design for a DEADROP character, and it bears resemblance to the Doomsayer skin.
The DEADROP “Variants” are players who purchased the first round of early access passes to the game. One of the bonuses is called “VisorCortex IDs,” which are NFTs that give players unique skins.
In other Call of Duty news, Activision is now gearing up for the release of Modern Warfare 2. A teaser trailer that includes a campaign sneak peak just dropped yesterday. Check out our article about that story.
