DICE, developer of Battlefield 2042, has announced that it will be reworking maps amid player complaints that current maps are “walking simulator[s].” However, DICE said that the fixes would not be coming until at least summer 2022.
In a recent blog post, DICE addressed concerns on the map sizes and how long it takes to walk from position to position.
“We’re currently looking to reduce the overall travel time between Flag and Base Spawn on some maps by moving both the Base Spawn, and closest Flags. We’ve already identified a number of obvious candidates that fall outside of our new expected behaviours, but we want to hear from you on this topic as well.”
DICE acknowledged that the player count influenced the larger map sizes, but that it was not beneficial to the gameplay experience.

The developers also addressed concerns about the overwhelming combat gameplay with 128 players involved. They stated how players had spoken regarding the large player count making it difficult to engage in combat. DICE specifically pointed out the Breakthrough mode and is currently considering keeping a 64-count game or reducing things like the number of vehicles to allow for more infantry combat.
Among other detailed issues, DICE gave images of the before and after regarding map reworkings, which also includes fixing objective paths and providing more cover from long-distance combat. They showcased current ideas regarding the fixes that will be made.
However, they did reiterate that the fixes would not be immediate nor across all maps right away. They invited players to submit comments on their forum and that they would be looking at feedback across platforms like Reddit and more.
