Assassin’s Creed was the highlight of today’s Ubisoft Forward livestream event, with several new Assassin’s Creed titles announced. Assassin’s Creed Infinity, the long-awaited future of the franchise, has finally been announced as well.
Assassin’s Creed’s vice president executive producer, Marc-Alexis Cote, explained that “Infinity is not a game, per-se. It’s going to be the single entry point for our fans into the Assassin’s Creed franchise into the future. Infinity is going to be a hub that will unite all our different experiences and our players together in meaningful ways.”
Assassin’s Creed Codename Red was announced and will be the “next premium flagship title and the future of our open-world RPG games.” It is set to take place in feudal Japan, which has been long-awaited by fans of the franchise. A brief reveal trailer showed a Shinobi jumping onto a roof and unsheathing a hidden blade, but that is all that we got to see of the project.
Codename Red is being developed by Ubisoft Quebec, the studio that worked on Assassin’s Creed Odyssey.
Additionally for the Infinity platform is Assassin’s Creed Codename Hexe. Not much was shown at all, but Cote described it as a “new flagship title” and “a very different type of Assassin’s Creed game.”
The only thing shown in the Hexe trailer was a triangular logo made of twigs and twine that was hanging from a tree branch. It is possible that Hexe could be about witches, as the logo looked like a witchcraft talisman. Hexe is also the German word for ‘witch,” which may mean that we might get some witch trials in this one. We still have yet to know, as no details have been given out by Ubisoft yet.
Cote also spoke about how the company was exploring bringing back multiplayer experiences into the Assassin’s Creed universe with Infinity.
The two coded projects are expected after 2023, with Assassin’s Creed Mirage expected for a 2023 release.
