Apple has paused gambling ads on the app store

Apple has begun rolling out adding more advertisements to the App Store, but problems have already begun to arise as ads for gambling apps have started to appear.

Since the rollout, developers have been complaining about getting ads for gambling under their listings’ “You Might Also Like” section, despite the fact that the gambling ads have nothing to do with their listing.

Marco Arment, a developer, posted a screenshot on Twitter showing gambling ads on the App Store page for his podcast app Overcast. Other developers have reported similar issues and have affirmed that they were not fine with casino ads in their product pages.

Apple has no paused ads related to gambling on the App Store product pages, but did not address if they would resume the practice later or not.

Among the apps that have casino ads shown under them are even a gambling addiction recovery app. It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to deduce what the problem with this setup is.

Apple has been working towards expanding its revenue from ads, with a desire to triple the figure to $10 billion per year.
