Honest review of Series X mini fridge

Please note that this is not a sponsored review!

Back when the Xbox Series X was announced, people began to take note that the console looked an awful lot like a mini fridge. Of course, Microsoft saw a business opportunity and decided to turn the Series X into a full-sized fridge. And then announced a mini fridge for consumer use later.

Yes, somehow the Xbox Series X mini fridge is a real thing. Though, you probably knew that. It’s been out for quite a while now, but guess what? Getting our hands on one was pretty impossible for the longest time ever.

Now, we’ve finally got ourselves one of these and it’s probably one of the coolest things to add in any gaming room out there. Not only does it perfectly resemble the Series X, it also does genuinely cool things that were at room temperature, which is one of its best features.

There are some problems that I found with the fridge, but we’ll get into that later. For now, let’s just take a deep dive into the technical aspects of the Xbox Series X Mini Fridge.

I cannot believe that this is a thing.

Specs of the Mini Fridge

The Xbox Series X mini fridge is a pretty big fridge, not the biggest out there, but it’s not bad. Now, the fridge cools using a fan at the top that takes in cold air and exhausts hot air. The thermoelectric cooler is a bit loud, which is one of the issues, but if you can get past the slight sound–which I found eventually feels like it drowns out into the background–it’s fine.

In terms of dimensions, it’s about 18 inches tall and 9 inches wide. It goes in about 9 inches in length as well. The interior is about 0.35 cubic feet, so it can fit a generally decent amount of small things.

The fridge comes with two shelves for the main fridge and two small snack shelves on the door. These snack shelves can fit about a large sized candy bar or a few small ones. The main shelves can be removed to create more room. I found that it was easier to fit taller and larger things when the second shelf was removed. But you obviously can just keep everything as is and stuff it with what you have.

The fridge did cool pretty quickly. Some models come with an eco mode and a max mode. Eco mode is supposed to be a bit quieter. Now unfortunately, I didn’t get an eco mode model but there were basically none available to get my hands on, so I worked with what I got. To be honest, the sound of my computer fans are louder than this thing sometimes. You really don’t hear it after a while. Some people may be more sensitive to its noise though.

It does produce quite a bit of condensation on the inside due to it being a thermoelectric cooler. Although this can get annoying, it’s not hard to clean at all. Turn the fridge off for about two hours every two days and clean the condensation. I found that that was the best way to keep the fridge working well.

In the box also comes a car adapter cord. Basically, you can take the series x mini fridge wherever you want in your car and cool your drinks on the go. I don’t really see myself using it, but hey, cool feature nonetheless.

It also comes with a USB port on the front so you can charge your phone. It’s a neat addition that makes using the fridge near a desk a lot more incentivizing.

General Thoughts

Stylistically, it does look like the Series X. I mean, it’s definitely bigger when placed next to it, but it looks like the actual console itself.

Really, I feel like the Series X mini fridge is a great collector’s item. It’s not the most insane fridge out there, but it looks cool and it does fit in really nicely with a gaming room or gaming setup. I have mine personally close to my desk, so I can put water in it and a few miscellaneous snacks because surprise surprise, my gaming area is also my work area and my school area. Fun times.

Here’s the thing though, the Series X mini fridge is not actually a fridge, by means of what a fridge is. Yeah, you can’t store perishables in it for too long. Maybe if you’ve got a lunch in there to eat for later, that’s fine, but to store food in it for days on end doesn’t really work. It’s more like a really good cooler, and it can stay on for a long time.

I found that it was best for drinks and small snacks, like snickers or the like. You can put about 12 cans of soda in the fridge, and it surprisingly does fit a lot. I’m not the biggest soda drinker out there, but if you have things like iced tea, Gatorade, water, pretty much any type of canned drink, you can fit it in this.

At the end of the day, would I recommend it? Yes. I actually very much would recommend the series x mini fridge. I love it honestly. It’s one of the coolest things I’ve got for my setup, and I think it does cool stuff really well. The size is quite impressive, and I never felt that it was too big or too small. It’s also not very heavy so you can lift it and move it around pretty easily. Yeah, it’s no appliance marvel, but for a novelty item that doubles as a cooler, it’s great.
