It looks like a new MechWarrior game is currently in development, according to the president of Piranha Games.
President Russ Bullock revealed the news about the new MechWarrior game in an interview with podcast No Guts No Galaxy.
Piranha has previously released two MechWarrior games, MechWarrior Online (2013) and MechWarrior 5: Mercenaries (2019).
Bullock explained that Piranha Games is still working on MechWarrior, adding that it “has been somewhat surprising to me, that we’ve been able to work on it this long, which is great.
“Everyone knows we have DLC 4 coming out for MechWarrior 5, and there is another MechWarrior game in development at Piranha.”
Bullock clarified that the new MechWarrior game will be single-player. “It’s not MechWarrior Online 2, it’s not the successor to MechWarrior Online, it’s not an online PvP.”
“Think of it more in line with MechWarrior 5, but a standalone game, a standalone product. So I guess that’s an exclusive announcement for you but that’s all I’ll say for now,” he added.
Bullock also stated that the MechWarrior game is still a way from being revealed. “It’ll be announced later — don’t know, if I had to guess it may be even until… oh, who knows. Somewhere in 2023. Maybe even as late as the fall, like September or something.
“So it’ll be a while, you’ll have to wait around to see what that is. But yeah, more in-line with a MechWarrior 5 type of experience, meaning it’ll be a game that comes out on all the platforms, PC and console.”
MechWarrior 5 released as an Epic Store exclusive before releasing on Steam, Xbox Series X/S and Xbox One back in May 2021. MechWarrior 5 eventually came to PS4 and PS5 in September 2021.
