Earlier today, Disney+ posted a video over on Twitter featuring famous author Rick Riordan. He announced in it that Percy Jackson would finally be getting a TV series on Disney+. This comes as a massive excitement to Percy Jackson fans and longtime fans all over the world.
When I was young, I loved the Percy Jackson books and read every single one I could get my hands on. However, the only screen adaptation Percy Jackson ever really got was the disappointing two movies we had. As movies, they weren’t necessarily terrible for their time, but as an adaptation, they weren’t good either.
The Percy Jackson series follows the story of a young demigod in the modern era who is coming to terms with his newly discovered backstory and powers. The first book shows Percy dealing with being accused of stealing Zeus’ lightning bolt and having to recover it in order to return it to Olympus.
Rick Riordan and Jon Steinberg will be in charge of plot writing and James Bobin will be in charge of the directing. The series was originally reported to be in the works back in May 2020. Now, it’s become official with casting under way.
If the series faces good success and is renewed, we would hopefully be seeing each book being adapted as a season in the show. The Percy Jackson series is comprised of the following: The Lightning Thief, The Sea of Monsters, The Titan’s Curse, The Battle of the Labyrinth, and The Last Olympian. There was also a follow-up series called The Heroes of Olympus. However, no word has been given on if it would become a part of the series as well.
The original films grossed over $425 Million collectively, but was given mixed reviews. There were only two films and plans to make more were scrapped.
