Blogging is a long haul, but it doesn’t mean that you have to sit there and watch your website get no views. However, you can certainly see an increase in traffic to your blog by following the ten tips outlined below:

1. Keyword Research

One of the biggest problems many bloggers face is a lack of keyword research. Sure, you can write about just anything you want, but there are certain words that trend constantly on the internet.

Keyword research allows for you to see what’s popular, what’s trending, and what people are looking for at specific times. The more keywords you place into your blog, the better your traffic numbers will become.

You want to make sure that you’re picking keywords that are easier to rank in than others. That’s why a keyword research tool is a perfect way of finding this information.

There are plenty of free and paid websites that you can use for keyword research. One website we recommend in particular is Mangools Keyword Finder. You can use this tool to input specific keywords and determine if they are good enough to rank in.

2. Hone in your long-form content strategy

Google loves to reward high-quality, long-form blog posts. A blog post that’s below 300 words is probably not what you want to try and rank in over longer periods of time (this does not count for news content).

The more in-depth your blog post is, the more you’ll find that readers will be interested in what you have to say. It will give them an idea that you know what you’re talking about, so they’ll stay longer.

However, always remember that your post shouldn’t be too long. Don’t write up an entire book – aim for about 1,500 words as a good average.

3. Build an email list

You may have heard this one before, but building an email list is one of the best and most important ways to grow your subscriber base and gain consistent readership. By building an email list, you know that there are people out there that are dedicated, interested, and expecting your articles.

Email lists allow for traffic to keep coming in, as a weekly newsletter or frequent emails allow for people to see your posts and have access to them constantly.

People do check their emails quite often, so you are almost guaranteed to have your email show up in a person’s inbox. Plus, it’s a foolproof way to increase traffic to your blog. Time and time again, bloggers have raved about email lists! And for very good reason.

Plus…you can technically advertise some of your favorite affiliate products in your emails to your readers. That way, you can also boost your affiliate marketing sales.

4. Always update your old posts

Sometimes, things change. Life is a fast-moving timeline and technology and information can get outdated fast. That’s why many careers out there like computer science require employees to constantly be updated on the happenings in their sector all the time. You never know what things in the industry will change.

If you have some blog posts from a year or two ago and you realize that your information is now outdated, then it’s a good idea to take those posts and revamp them for your current year. That way, you can keep consistent information streams on your page and show your readership the new and updated information.

Updating a post often can increase traffic to your blog, and it shows readers that you’re dedicated to what it is that you’re talking about in your niche.

5. Perfect your Pinterest strategy

One of the most important sites to promote blog posts is Pinterest. Unlike what most people say, Pinterest is not a social media platform. It’s a visual search engine. This means that it’s like Google but with image content to search up.

That’s why Pinterest is so beloved by the blogging community – it’s a platform who’s majority user base is looking for blogs, products, and more.

However, because Pinterest is a visual search engine, you need to nail your visuals down as best as possible.

That’s why we recommend using Canva to make your pins look amazing. Canva Pro allows users access to every font, stock photo, graphic, and more all for a reasonable monthly price. You can also add up to five people on a single Canva Pro account, so this can definitely help if you have more than one writer working with you.

6. Ensure you’re internally linking constantly

Let’s just say you’ve typed up an amazing blog post and you’re ready to share it with the world. However, you have linked nothing from your page internally. This will certainly hurt your ability to generate more clicks, reads, and visits to your website.

When you type up a new post, be sure to involve links to other posts in order to build a linking ecosystem on your page. I’ll demonstrate right here:

7. Boost your visual content with images, graphics, and more

If you’re someone that has the writing part down but aren’t so good with adding visuals, you need to make that change now. Adding visuals is one of the best ways to create a post that will appeal to your readership.

Imagine having to read post after post of nothing but blocks of text. That can get really tiring and really boring very quickly for a reader. Yourself included!

Be sure to break up walls of text with images or even something funny like a gif. If you have Canva Pro, you can create some cool graphics and designs to include in your articles to illustrate certain points.

too much text in a blog post can leave your brain feeling muddled and decrease traffic to your blog and website
Your brain probably feels like this if you overwhelm yourself!

If someone clicks on your blog posts and finds themselves overwhelmed with too much text, then you won’t see that increase in traffic to your blog that you were hoping for. Don’t fall into this mistake!

8. Backlinks, backlinks, backlinks!

Backlinks are one of the most important things any blogger needs to do to create reputation on Google. Think of it like this: When another website has a link of yours hosted on it, then Google will see that your website is important and is valued by other readers. This way, you can boost your position in Google’s results and boost traffic to your blog.

You can do this in a multitude of ways:

  • Write guest posts on other blogs or websites
  • Add your website link to your social media pages
  • Contact influencers in your niche and get them to direct clicks to your blog

9. Start a Facebook page

Facebook is one of the biggest social media platforms to this day and you can’t go wrong with having a Facebook page. There are people browsing all the time, looking for articles, networking opportunities, and so much more.

The DZSH Group has a Facebook page where we regularly share our articles. You can check it out here.

A Facebook page is a place where you can constantly update your readership, get new clicks, and grow your reach for your blog. Trust me, you don’t want to skip out on Facebook if you’re a blogger.

Plus, there are plenty of communities you can outreach to and increase your circle of connections, which can get you more website clicks as well!

10. Make your headlines clickable

Our final tip is to ensure that your headlines are actually clickable. One of the biggest problems many bloggers fall into is curating amazing posts but neglecting to take time on analyzing and perfecting their headlines.

Think of your headline as the “book cover.” You know you shouldn’t judge a book by its cover, but in reality, everyone does. Same goes for blogging: Everyone judges your article by the title or the headline of it. That’s why you need to ensure that you’re making your headlines great. A good headline can easily increase traffic to your blog.

You definitely can look into headline analyzers like Headline Analyzer in order to get feedback in real time on if your headline can get clicks or not.
