Ubisoft, the French game publisher behind Assassin’s Creed and Rainbow Six Siege, is now suspending inactive accounts. Inactive accounts are also at risk of being completely deleted.
The period of time for which an account is inactive seems to be around 4 years of inactivity and the restrictions also seem to be loose for PC players the most. However, if you haven’t been on your Ubisoft account in over 4 years, you may be getting an email from Ubisoft about it.
This week, a Twitter user by the name of PC_enjoyer shared a screenshot to the platform of a Ubisoft support email. In this email, the user was told that their account had been suspended for inactivity. The email also warned that within 30 days, the account would be permanently closed.
If an account is permanently closed, it means that all games purchased on that account would become inaccessible. This is obviously a concerning thing, and it makes no sense why it’s even a thing.
Ubisoft Support over on Twitter responded to the original tweet saying: “We just wanted to chime in that you can avoid the account closure by logging into your account within the 30 days (since receiving the email pictured) and selecting the Cancel Account Closure link contained in the email. We certainly do not want you to lose access to your games or account so if you have any difficulties logging in then please create a support case with us.”
This is apparently done in compliance with Europe’s General Data Protection Regulation,
If you’ve got a Ubisoft account with games on it, you should probably make sure you log in, especially if it’s been a while since you last logged in.
