Gears of War is getting a Netflix movie adaptation and an animated show

Netflix has announced that it is partnering with The Coalition to develop a Gears of War movie and adult animated series.

On the official Netflix Twitter account, Netflix announced the news, writing: “Gears of War was released 16 years ago today and to mark the occasion, Netflix has partnered with The Coalition to adapt the @GearsofWar video game saga into a live action feature film, followed by an adult animated series — with the potential for more stories to follow!”

It is not clear though if the Gears of War adaptation by Netflix is related to the Gears of War movie that has been stuck in development for nearly 15 years now.

Netflix has made several video game adaptations before, some more popular than others. Its recent Cyberpunk 2077 anime series was a major hit for the network and it even led to a resurgence in players for Cyberpunk 2077 as a game. However, its recent Resident Evil series became one of the lowest rated on the platform by users.

Netflix is also working with Ubisoft currently to create a TV series for Assassin’s Creed, but no official date has been given for that yet.

The Gears series has been fairly quiet since the release of Gears Tactics back in 2020. However, it is currently known that a new Gears game is in development.

The Netflix adaptations are still in development, so no release date has been announced just yet, but we’ll be here when it does!
