Elvis is one of 2022’s more popular films, having a grand opening weekend. Even with its availability on both PVOD and HBO Max however, the film, directed by Baz Luhrmann, is still making high profits at the domestic office.
In fact, it’s currently the eighth-largest film of 2022.
The movie is set to make over $300 million globally after its run in cinemas is over.
The film tells the story of Elvis’ rise to fame under Colonel Parker. It received positive reviews after its premiere show in Cannes. The major criticisms came from the film’s almost 3-hour long runtime, however there were clearly more positives than negatives considering the high praise for Austin Butler’s performance as the young singer.
It’s also a pretty big improvement in the field of films for older audiences. Most films last year directed at these audiences failed at the box office, with the only one doing mildly well being House Of Gucci, making a mere 150 million. Elvis however may be an Oscar-winning film.
It’s currently the second largest musical biopic in film history, the first being Bohemian Rhapsody. Both films are directed by Luhrmann however, with the latter being his second largest production ever.
As things stand however, Elvis continues to captivate audiences around the world.
