Xbox has failed to reach its internal goal of Xbox Game Pass subscribers for the second year in a row now.

Axios reported a new financial filing made by Microsoft that gives information on an annual target tied to CEO Satya Nadella’s pay and that of other Microsoft executives.

Microsoft wanted a growth rate of 72.88% for Xbox Game Pass subscribers for the fiscal year ending June 30, 2022. However, the growth rate was only 28.07%.

This is the second year in a row that Game Pass has not seen the target growth rate. Back in the 2021 fiscal year, the target was 47.79%, but it only grew 37.48%.

However, back in 2020, the target rate was 71% and it ended up exceeding it with an 85.57% growth rate.

Earlier this week, Xbox head Phil Spencer explained that Game Pass growth on consoles is “slowing down.”

During WSJ Tech Live, Spencer said that: “I’ve seen growth slow down, mainly because at some point you’ve reached everybody on console that wants to subscribe.”

As of January 2022, Game Pass has reached over 25 million subscribers.
