Valve released an announcement today confirming that the official Steam Deck Docking Station is now available for purchase. The Docking Station runs for $89. Valve also announced that the Steam Deck can be bought without reservation.
The Valve dock is meant to make it easier to hook up the Steam Deck to a monitor or television, further enabling a PC experience with the handled device. The dock comes equipped with three USB-A 3.1 Gen 1 ports, a gigabit ethernet port, a DisplayPort 1.4 port, and an HDMI 2.0 port.
A USB-C cable can be plugged into the Steam Deck and then that cable connects to the Docking Station. The dock will not improve the performance or strength of the Steam Deck — it simply connects the device to an external display.
Valve stated that the dock is compatible with a ”wide range of displays and peripherals.” Valve did acknowledge that they could have missed some due to the sheer number of external displays available on the market.
The Docking Station has its own power supply but does not need to be plugged in for it to be used. However, if you don’t plug it in, there will be reduced throughput from the USB ports.
It looks like a large number of orders has placed the Steam Deck Docking Station on reservation now, however. Valve did state that if order volumes become too high, then the Steam Deck may also go back to reservation. It looks like Steam Decks will be delivered within one to two weeks now as well.
