Ubisoft confirms that Project Q has been canceled

Ubisoft recently announced that it had canceled three “unannounced” titles on top of a sixth delay for its pirate adventure game, Skull & Bones. This comes on top of four other canceled projects from 2022. One of those newly canceled titles is Project Q, which was announced quite some time ago.

According to Eurogamer, a spokesperson from Ubisoft said that: “We can confirm we will no longe support the development of Project Q in order to focus on priority projects, to which our teams are being reallocated.”

This echoes similar statements Ubisoft made recently as well. The company has decided to switch its methods at game development to focus on a few titles rather than branch out to many.

Project Q was announced in April 2022 and had gone through several rounds of testing, with more rounds having been planned as well. Little was known about the game, which was set to be an arena PVP title.

When Project Q was officially announced, Ubisoft shared a piece of concept art and stated the project would not be a battle royale and that it would instead “feature a variety of PVP modes.” Ubisoft then confirmed in a follow-up tweet that Project Q would not include NFTs.

Ubisoft is facing “major challenges as the industry continues to shift towards mega-brands and long-lasting titles.” Just Dance 2023 and Mario + Rabbids: Sparks of Hope both performed well below Ubisoft’s expectations.

The situation has even seen CEO Yves Guillemot telling staff the “ball was in their court” to deliver games “on time and at the expected level of quality” and turn the company around—a clearly controversial statement. Guillemot did walk those statements back after union calls for Ubisoft Paris workers to go on strike were made.

There is no telling currently where the team for Project Q will be allocated to.
