OnePlus’s flagship model, the OnePlus 10T, is set to release on August 3rd, and it’s already made some splashes in the news with a controversy. In an interview with The Verge, OnePlus Chief Designer Hope Liu explained many decisions the company made, including the reason behind the elimination of the alert slider.
OnePlus confirmed that several features will not be coming to the flagship 10T model, including the alert slider and the Hasselblad branding.
According to Liu, the company made the decision to omit the alert slider, as it was too big to fit the 10T model. Additionally, the company wanted to make additional space for features like “high wattage charging, a large battery capacity, and better antenna signal.”
Liu added that although the “alert slider appears to be a very small component, it actually has a relatively large impact on the device’s motherboard area–taking up to 30 mm^2.”
The OnePlus 10T comes with faster network speeds by means of an antenna system that has 15 separate antennas that help boost connectivity when the phone is held horizontally. Additionally, the 10T has two “charging pumps,” with rumors stating that the 10T may have 150W fast charging.
Liu clarified that if OnePlus added the alert slider, it would have led to the motherboard being stacked, which “would have made the device thicker.”
In terms of the Hasselblad branding, OnePlus had entered a partnership with the company last year for their phone cameras. However, Liu stated that the 10T does not include Hasselblad branding because the company “wanted to offer an ultimate performance flagship smartphone at the device’s chosen price point.”
The OnePlus 10T will include a triple camera with a 50MP Sony IMX766 sensor. The camera is ultrawide and will have a 119.9* field of view, as well as a macro camera.
The OnePlus 10T will come in two colors: Jade Green and Moonstone Black.
