Upcoming survival action title, Stalker 2: Heart of Chornobyl, may not be getting a release date any time soon after the game was moved to “unconfirmed” for its release. Players on Xbox who already pre-ordered the title have been given refunds as well.
Back in 2020, Stalker 2 was announced as a sequel to the cult-classic Stalker: Shadow of Chornobyl. The game was planned to be launched in 2022, but due to many factors and the Russian invasion of Ukraine, that may not be happening.
GSC Game World, the developers behind Stalker 2, are based in Ukraine. The studio claimed that they would not continue work early on in the invasion until Ukraine won the war. However, after two months, GSC Game World confirmed that they were continuing to work on Stalker 2. Still, it looks like the delay was enough to push the release date back indefinitely.
Pre-orders for Stalker 2 seem to have halted on the Microsoft store page, with players who did preorder getting refunds, according to Polish website XGP.
GSC Game World has also undergone a partial relocation to the Czech Republic. The studio originally worked out of Kyiv prior to the Russian invasion. However, some of the staff have been unable to leave Ukraine and are still working on the game. Other staff have volunteered to fight in the war against Russia.
The game was pushed back to 2023 for a release, but now that seems like it won’t be happening.
