Payday 3 got a surprise announcement on New Year's Eve and will release later in 2023

Payday 3 dropped a surprise announcement on New Year’s Eve, which is typically not a common time for video game news to release.

Late on New Year’s Eve, Payday 3 dropped a short teaser trailer and a link to wishlist the new game on Steam.

Payday 3 is set to release sometime in 2023, but no specific release date was yet given. The official description on Steam says the following about Payday 3:

“PAYDAY 3 is the much anticipated sequel to one of the most popular co-op shooters ever. Since its release, PAYDAY-players have been reveling in the thrill of a perfectly planned and executed heist. That’s what makes PAYDAY a high-octane, co-op FPS experience without equal.

“Step out of retirement back into the life of crime in the shoes of the Payday Gang, the envy of their peers and the nightmare of law-enforcement wherever they go. Several years after the crew’s reign of terror over Washington DC has ended, they assemble once again to deal with the threat that roused them out of early retirement.”

Payday 2 released back in August 2013 and is currently 99 cents over on Steam as a part of the Winter Sale.

Payday 2 has had an interesting time since its release. Its publisher Starbreeze Studios faced financial difficulties that halted development in 2018. After some fixes and restructuring, Starbreeze and Overkill went back to work in October 2019 on Payday 2.

Since Payday 2 released in 2013, it’s received 10 DLC Heists. Payday 1 and 2 together have sold millions of units. Back in 2014, it was reported that the two collectively sold 9 million units. With the announcement, Payday 3 has slotted itself as a genuinely anticipated release for 2023. We have yet to see how it will perform in sales, but we’re excited for what’s next.
