Warner Bros. Games and Player First Games have announced that MultiVersus will be going offline and early access will be ending on June 25. Access to MultiVersus will be temporarily down for online features. The current plans indicate that a full relaunch is set for 2024.
The announcement was made via a blog post on Monday. The post thanked players for participating in the open beta for MultiVersus and called it a “stepping stone” for the next phase.
“Throughout our open beta, we’ve been working hard to build the best gameplay experience, and we appreciate all of the inspiration you’ve given us,” Tony Huynh, the co-founder and game director at Player First Games, said.
“Our Open Beta has been an important learning opportunity for us and a stepping stone to the next phase of MultiVersus.”
There will be some changes coming to MultiVersus as well, including improvements for the “content cadence” of new characters, maps, modes, and matchmaking. The progression system will also be overhauled and there will be a new way for players to connect with other players online.
Player First Games says that it also wants to update the netcode for MultiVersus.
Once it goes offline in June, there will not be any updates until the game relaunches. However, players will still have access to the training room (The Lab), local matches, their characters, and cosmetics in an offline capacity. However, no refunds will be given for any purchases during the game’s downtime.
MultiVersus saw a 99% drop in activity on the PC version last month despite its success upon release. There seems to be many reasons why the dramatic drop in the player base occurred, including a lack of cohesive content drops and the lack of any updates to the game since January.
