It looks like Microsoft might include a cheaper, ad-supported tier of Xbox Game Pass, according to a survey.
The survey appeared on ResetEra and appears to ask players if they would be willing to pay lower amounts than the standard Xbox Game Pass monthly fee in exchange for some limitations on the subscription.
One of the options suggests that players will get a lower fee, but will get access to first-party Xbox titles on a delay of up to 6 months. Ads may also be integrated as a part of the service, but no indication was given on how the ads would appear.
The survey is not a confirmation of a cheaper tier for Xbox Game Pass, but it does look like Microsoft is looking into ways to expand the subscriber base. Phil Spencer, head of Xbox, admitted recently that subscriptions have slowed down on Xbox.
As of January 2022, Game Pass has over 25 million subscribers Microsoft has also claimed that it has an installed base of 63 million consoles.
Game Pass has been seeing strong growth on PC, with “PC Game Pass subscriptions [increasing] 159% year-over-year.”
In 2021, from consoles alone, Game Pass generated $2.9 billion in revenue.
