It’s official: Lin Manuel Miranda is joining the cast of the upcoming Disney+ TV adaptation of Percy Jackson and will star as the Greek god Hermes.

An official announcement via Twitter confirmed the news, stating: “A message from the messenger god himself: Lin Manuel Miranda is Hermes in #PercyJackson and the Olympians, an Original series coming to #DisneyPlus.”

The Percy Jackson series was originally announced back in 2020 and is based on the popular fantasy book series, Percy Jackson and the Olympians. Walker Scobell is set to star as Percy and is a big fan of the series.

The author of the original series, Rick Riordan, said that: “Aside from being a rising star, Walker is also a super-fan of the books, having read everything through The Trials of Apollo. The excitement is so thick you could cut it with a Celestial bronze sword. Walker is an avid skateboarder and skier, and is super excited to get to Vancouver and start working on swordplay, holding his breath under water, and other stunts of derring-do.”

Aryan Simhadri wills tar as Grover and Leah Sava Jeffries will be Annabeth, the daughter of Athena

The first trailer for the series was revealed during D23 earlier this year and gave us a first-look at Scobell as Percy Jackson, as well as what we can expect to see in the series.

This isn’t the first time Percy Jackson has been adapted for screens. Back in 2010 and 2013, two movies were made surrounding Percy Jackson and the Olympians starring Logan Lerman. However, the movies were fairly controversial among fans for diverging quite a bit from the source material and for not properly pacing the story.

I remember watching the movies back then, and although they weren’t the worst I’d ever seen, there definitely was some magic missing from the movies that was present in the books.
