The last time there was news about the Knights of the Old Republic remake, Aspyr Media had delayed development indefinitely, much to the disappointment of many Star Wars fans. Now, a report by Bloomberg reveals that the project has been moved to Saber Interactive in Eastern Europe.
According to the source that gave the information to Bloomberg, the game will likely take at least two more years to finish.
It was reported that Aspyr was revoked development duties after owner Embracer and production partners Lucasfilm and Sony were all displeased with the game’s progress under Aspyr’s direction.
In May, Embracer confirmed that Aspyr parent company Saber was also working on the game. Some of Bloomberg’s sources believed that it was possible Saber had completely overtaken development of the project.
Without specifically mentioning the title, Embracer seemed to confirm that last Thursday that the KOTOR remake had switched developers in a statement: “One of the Group’s AAA projects has transitioned to another studio within the Group. This was done to ensure the quality bar is where we need it to be for the title. We are not expecting any material delays for the title based on this transition.”
The KOTOR remake was announced September 2021 for PlayStation 5 and PC. It was in development for three years at Aspyr and was originally planned for release back by the end of 2022. However, some issues in the development as well as the firing of the design director and art director caused the game to be delayed indefinitely.
