Justin Bieber has Ramsay Hunt syndrome

On Friday, Justin Bieber announced that he is taking a break from performing after one side of his face became fully paralyzed.

The singer posted a video on his Instagram explaining that he has Ramsay Hunt syndrome, which has left half of his face paralyzed and unable to move.

“It’s from this virus that attacks the nerve in my ear and my facial nerves and has caused my face to have paralysis. As you can see this eye is not blinking. I can’t smile on my face; this nostril will not move. So there’s full paralysis on this side of my face.”

According to Mount Sinai, Ramsay Hunt syndrome is “a painful rash around the ear, on the face, or on the mouth. It occurs when the varicella-zoster virus infects a nerve in the head.”

“This is pretty serious, as you can see. I wish this wasn’t the case, but, obviously, my body’s telling me I’ve got to slow down. I hope you guys understand. I’ll be using this time to just rest and relax and get back to a hundred percent so that I can do what I was born to do.”

Justin Bieber also added: “It’s going to be okay. I have hope, and I trust God.”

This isn’t the first time the Bieber’s have dealt with serious health conditions. In March, his wife Hailey Bieber, was hospitalized after getting a small blood clot in her brain. She later explained that she had suffered a mini-stroke due to a small hole in her heart where the clot traveled to the brain.

She was given surgery to close the hole, which was approximately 12 to 13 millimeters.
