Its been rumored that Sledgehammer Games is working on a sequel to Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare.

Ralph Valve, an insider who has previously accurately leaked information about Activision’s Call of Duty franchise claimed that Advanced Warfare is coming back in a report for What If Gaming.

Valve said that Sledgehammer will revisit the sci-fi installment of the popular shooter franchise after the relatively poor reception and performance of its most recent World War II title, Call of Duty Vanguard.

Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare released back in 2014 and was one of the first Call of Duty titles to go all-in on making Call of Duty a military sci-fi experience. It diverged from the traditional style of Call of Duty (boots-on-the-ground, as it’s often referred to) and gave players the ability to use Exo Suits.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 and Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare featured similar gameplay, but the series reverted back to a traditional shooter title with Sledgehammer’s Call of Duty: WWII back in 2017. Infinite Warfare had received poor reception and attention, and since then, Call of Duty has not returned to the future for its titles.

However, that might change in 2025. Valve claims that Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare 2 is slated for release then and may also bring a sci-fi element to Call of Duty’s battle royale, Warzone.

This year, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 is set to release on October 28 with the next Call of Duty title likely coming in 2024. It is set to be a Black Ops entry from developer Treyarch.

In other news, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 is granting players who pre-ordered the title early access to the campaign on October 20. Warzone 2 is releasing on November 16, and will begin Modern Warfare 2’s first season of live content.
