Pixar announced during the Disney 23 Studio Showcase (D23) that Inside Out 2 is finally coming. Pixar head Pete Doctor was about to end the Pixar segment when actress Amy Poehler (Joy) interrupted and made a surprise announcement that a sequel to Inside Out is coming.
Doctor did say that the film is early in production. It will be directed by Kelsey Mann and will follow a now teenage Riley. Poehler teased that new emotions will be added, but it was not detailed what those will be just yet.
Inside Out is a movie about a young girl named Riley who must deal with the pressures of moving to California after growing up in Minnesota. The film mainly focuses on her personified emotions, who end up in trouble when Joy and Sadness must fix the loss of Riley’s core memories.
Inside Out 2 is set for a Summer 2024 release. Pixar has also announced that it will be making an animated romance called Elemental, a long-form series called Win or Lose, and a new animated film called Elio.
