The Game of Thrones prequel, House of the Dragon, has proven itself to be HBO Max’s biggest premiere ever. The debut was watched by nearly 10 million across both HBO and HBO Max. It’s the largest audience for a new show in the history of HBO.
HBO chief content officer Casey Bloys said that “it was wonderful to see millions of Game of Thrones fans return with us to Westeros last night. House of the Dragon features an incredibly talented cast and crew who poured their heart and soul into the production, and we’re ecstatic with viewers’ positive response. We look forward to sharing with audiences what else George, Ryan, and Miguel have in store for them this season.”
It was trending on Twitter for 14 hours as fans awaited the new show, proving to be a major hit on social media as well.
The House of the Dragon was the best series launch to date for HBO Max in the United States, Latin America, Europe, the Middle East, and Africa.
It seems like fans still haven’t had enough Game of Thrones yet, as the original debuted with 2.22 million viewers back in 2011. Of course, House of the Dragon does build its fanbase off of the Game of Thrones fanbase, but it’s still a very impressive figure.
Many also saw a complete crash of the HBO Max app due to how many users tried to log in at once to view the premiere.
