Battlefield is one of the most popular FPS franchises out there and is one of Electronic Arts’ (EA) best-selling games every year it releases. Due to its popularity and its long running time, there have been plenty of Battlefield games that have outsold the others. Battlefield games are developed by DICE and have lately been using the Frostbite engine.

Battlefield has been widely known for “Battlefield Moments,” where unscripted multiplayer sequences diverge into massive all-out battles and exciting movie-like scenes.

The most recent Battlefield to release was Battlefield 2042. Although Battlefield 2042 was not EA’s best release, there were still several others that outshone expectations. These are the top ten highest selling Battlefield games of all time!

(It’s important to note that EA did not really release official sales figures for Battlefield 2042, but called it’s sales figures ‘disappointing.’ Still, because there is no official word on the sales figures, we have not included it in this list)

10. Battlefield 2

Battlefield 2

Battlefield 2 released back in 2005 and was an exclusive for Windows PC. Eventually, a console version titled Battlefield 2: Modern Combat would be released, but Battlefield 2 still sold on its own 2.25 million copies.

Battlefield 2 included 64 player battles. There were three teams: the United States, the Chinese, or the Middle East Coalition. It also included lots of modern weaponry and more.

9. Battlefield 1942

Battlefield 1942

Selling approximately 2.47 million copies, Battlefield 1942 released exclusively on Windows PC back in 2002. Battlefield 1942 was a highly rated and beloved title in the franchise.

Set in WWII, Battlefield 1942 gave players a chance to play as infantry, pilots, or tank drivers and enjoy the massive battles that ensued.

8. Battlefield: Bad Company

Battlefield Bad Company

Battlefield: Bad Company released back in 2008 on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. With a campaign and exciting multiplayer, Bad Company would go on to sell around 2.59 million copies.

Battlefield: Bad Company would be the first in the franchise to use the Frostbite engine by DICE. Its updated graphics and great gameplay made it a beloved entry to the Battlefield franchise.

7. Battlefield 1943

Battlefield 1943

Battlefield 1943 released back in 2009 for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. With three tropic locations and a variety of weapons to use, Battlefield 1943 was a successful title. Selling about 3.64 million copies, it was a hit with fans.

Battlefield 1943 also used the Frostbite engine and brought aerial gunfights and brutal trench warfare to life.

6. Battlefield: Hardline

Battlefield Hardline

Battlefield: Hardline was a new twist to the franchise. Instead of focusing on military action, Battlefield: Hardline made childhood cops and robbers a reality. With new game modes and mechanics, it was a pretty decent entry.

Releasing back in 2015 for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and Windows PC, Hardline sold about 4.1 million copies.

5. Battlefield: Bad Company 2

Battlefield Bad Company 2

Releasing back in 2010, Battlefield: Bad Company 2 sold about 6.54 million copies. New weapons, vehicles, and destruction thanks to Frostbite made the gameplay much more immersive and intense. With a praised single-player campaign and more multiplayer options, it was a hit.

Battlefield: Bad Company 2 released on Xbox 360, Windows PC, and PlayStation 3. It also received a mobile port, interestingly enough.

4. Battlefield 5

Battlefield 5

Battlefield 5 went back to WWII in this intense and graphically brilliant installment to the franchise. Selling around 7.3 million copies, Battlefield 5 was praised for its wild multiplayer.

Releasing in 2018 on Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and Windows PC, Battlefield 5 included a lot of immersion and fun to be had.

However, it was also arguably one of the most controversial entries to the franchise, with a heavily disliked trailer. Fans were fairly upset at the inclusion of more female characters in the multiplayer options, arguing that it was not realistic for a game that considered itself realistic and immersive.

3. Battlefield 4

Battlefield 4

Battlefield 4 is largely considered one of the best entries in the Battlefield franchise. Releasing back in 2013, Battlefield 4 sold about 14.81 million copies. With an intense single player campaign and a fun multiplayer, Battlefield 4 was unsurprisingly well-liked.

Battlefield 4 also expanded upon the framework of the franchise, with new mechanics and even better destruction. Battlefield 4 included naval warfare, popular maps, and so much more.

(As a side note, Battlefield 4 is a DZSH favorite!)

2. Battlefield 1

Battlefield 1

15 million copies later, Battlefield 1 was one of the biggest successes for EA’s shooter franchise ever. Battlefield 1 released around the time that Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare did back in 2016. Regarded as one of the best in the series, it has recently gotten back on the radar with record-high Steam player numbers.

Battlefield 1 gave fans at the time a raw, gritty experience and promised epic combat and action, which it delivered on.

1. Battlefield 3

Battlefield 3

Finally, we’ve made it to the top dog of the list: Battlefield 3. Selling 17 million copies, Battlefield 3 released back in 2011 and gave players the chance to live through the eyes of U.S. Marines. With locations across the world, including New York and Tehran, Battlefield 3 has a lot to offer to players.

Battlefield 3 released on Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and Windows PC and released around the same time as Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3. However, Modern Warfare 3 would overtake Battlefield 3, selling nearly 31 million copies total.
